• Access control intelligence. Modern Physical Identity and Access Management (PIAM) platforms automate provisioning, surface anomalous access patterns, and reduce the administrative burden on the security team. Credential, biometric, and visitor management data, properly correlated, supports the Positive Site Control objective: the right people in, the wrong people out, with an auditable record.
• Force multiplication for compact teams. AI-enabled detection extends the effective range of a small, well-trained team by consolidating monitoring, enabling remote oversight of multiple sites, and reducing the number of static posts a program must staff. The savings are reinvested in better-paid, better-trained, mobile professionals – the people who intervene when something goes wrong.
• Pattern analysis across incident data. Aggregated incident reports, access logs, and case management records contain trend signals that humans struggle to surface manually. AI is well suited to that pattern-recognition work, provided the underlying data is clean and the analysis is reviewed by a qualified operator before it informs decisions.
HUMAN IN THE LOOP IS NON NEGOTIABLE
Every AI-generated alert, escalation, or analytic output must pass through a trained human before it triggers a consequential action. This is not a transitional posture – it is the emerging professional and regulatory standard for high-stakes AI deployments, and it aligns with how serious security organizations have always operated. AI can detect a weapon faster than a person, but only a person can determine intent, weigh context, and decide whether the appropriate response is a verbal challenge, a lockdown, or a 911 call. Build the workflow so the technology brings events forward, and the protection professional decides what happens next.
AI FOR DOCUMENTATION: A DIRECT CAUTION
There is real interest in using AI to streamline report writing, post orders, standard operating procedures, and after-action documentation. This is a legitimate use case – with hard rules attached.
• Do not draft incident reports in public, consumer-grade AI tools. Submitting client names, site details, employee information, or incident specifics to a public chatbot exposes that data to third-party retention, potential model training, and prompt-injection risk. Samsung’s well-publicized 2023 incidents prompted a wave of consumer-AI restrictions across major enterprises in finance, technology, and telecommunications. The lesson has already been learned the hard way; there is no need to learn it again.
• Use enterprise-grade AI environments wherever possible. Tools deployed under enterprise contracts with documented zero-retention and no-training terms – or, better, private and self-hosted models—keep sensitive operational data inside organizational boundaries. This is the appropriate environment for any AI-assisted documentation work involving real client or incident detail.
• If a public tool is the only option, sanitize first. Strip names, addresses, identifiers, and any client-attributable details before any prompt leaves the organization. Treat every public-AI prompt as if it could be read by a competitor, a regulator, or opposing counsel – because, in effect, it can be.
• AI does not author the o˛cial record – security professionals do. AI can format, restructure, and improve clarity. It cannot witness an event. Generative tools are known to fabricate plausible-sounding details, and that risk is unacceptable in a document that may end up in litigation, an insurance claim, or a regulatory filing. The protection professional reviews, corrects, and signs every report. The AI is a drafting aid, not a source of fact.
CLOSING PERSPECTIVE
The objective has not changed: protect people, property, and the continuity of the enterprise at a defensible cost. AI is a powerful instrument toward that objective when matched with disciplined design, capable people, and clear guardrails on data handling.
